250-300 THOUSAND UNIVERSITY GRADUATES LEFT ARMENIA
Arne Vagen, the head of the International Bureau of the Danish Council, participating in the conference on migration that opened in Yerevan on April 4, 2006, announced that 250-300 thousand citizens with higher education left Armenia in 1989-2001. These people mostly move to the United States, thinks Arne Vagen.

The research of the Danish Council of Refugees shows that part of these specialists had a permanent job in Armenia and an income above the average.

800 thousand to one million people left Armenia in 1989-2001.

90 per cent of people leaving Armenia are economic migrants. According to the news agency, this fact was given by Arne Vagen, the head of the International Bureau of the Danish Council on Refugees during the seminar on April 4.

Arne Vagen said from 800 thousand to one million people left Armenia in 1989-2001, which is 26.6 per cent of the total population. According to him, one of the factors of mass migration from Armenia is political instability, natural disasters and the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.
